The Protester Who Threw Russian Flags at Trump Just Got Charged — Whoa

As IJR previously reported, anti-Trump protester Ryan Clayton was able to enter a press area and throw Russian flags at President Donald Trump while he walked to a planned Senate Republican lunch on Tuesday.

Clayton also shouted “treason” at Trump. After he made himself known, Clayton was immediately taken away by Capitol Police. As he was being escorted, he started to shout to members of the press that the nation should be talking about Trump’s “treason” instead of tax cuts.

In a press release, Capitol Police revealed Clayton was only charged with a misdemeanor:

Today, at approximately 1:38 p.m., the United States Capitol Police arrested an individual for protesting inside the U.S. Capitol. An adult male, identified as Ryan T. CLAYTON, 36, of Sterling, Virginia, was preliminarily charged with § 10–503.16, Unlawful conduct.

The incident continues to be under investigation.

If convicted on the unlawful conduct charge, Clayton could be sentenced to up to six months in prison and face a fine.

Americans Take Action, the group Clayton is a part of, praised his stunt on its Facebook page:

On its website, Americans Take Action says it is “a network of populists who believe that the American government should represent we the people once again, that the economy should work for all of us, and that the internet should remain free and open for generations to come.”
